UK Statutory Leave: The Basics

The UK statutory minimum is 5.6 weeks per year. For a full-time employee working 5 days a week, that is 28 days. This 28 days can include bank holidays, depending on the contract. Part-time employees get a pro-rated equivalent. Multiply 5.6 weeks by the number of days per week they work. Someone working 3 days a week is entitled to 16.8 days. Many employers offer more than the statutory minimum. Always check the contract before assuming anything.

Bank Holidays

Employees do not automatically have a right to bank holidays off. It depends entirely on the wording of the contract. Some contracts include bank holidays within the 28-day statutory entitlement. Others add them on top. Check the contract first. Do not guess.
